E-Cigarettes and Vaping Bill Passed

May 16, 2019

Today, the legislature made an important step in potentially reducing the number of people addicted to nicotine by passing HB 7200. The bill will prevent sales of all forms of Nicotine to those under 21, an age group where the brain is still developing and young people are vulnerable to the addictive effects of nicotine.

We have a youth health crisis in our country with the vaping epidemic. We are aware that vaping and the use of e-cigarettes is a critical issue that impacts the youth of Enfield. I am pleased to see that the legislature is taking necessary steps to protect our children website. This sheds more light on the impact these addictive substances have on our youth in Enfield.

We also passed HB 7190 that will protect people who administer Naloxone or Narcan from civil or criminal prosecution. This is important considering Connecticut is among the top ten states with the highest rates of opioid-realted overdose deaths.

Both these bills will now be considered by the Senate.
